Failing

Failing. It is scary. And it is hard. It seems like it is impossible to overcome, but that isn't the case. Failing is a lesson, and I think most of us forget that. Most of us forget that failure teaches us a lot about life and what we can and can't do.

So what is it about failing that is so important, and why should it happen more often? Well it is simple. So simple, I can break it down into three reasons to help you get over any fear you may have about failing.

1. There is a lesson in every failure.

What do I mean by that? How can every failure have a lesson? Take my most recent failure as an example. I failed my first class ever. I mean ever. I never failed any class in school, and I did. Aside from the obvious, I learned what not to do in that class, I also learned that I need to manage myself better and admit when I am taking on too much. I was overwhelmed between work and school and refusing to let my colleges help. I was convinced I could do it all. I was determined that I would overcome any and everything. And I was wrong. I failed. I even debated on quitting school all together because one failure was going to ruin me. Instead, with the help of my wife, I realized that I need to ask for help, and I can't let myself get too lost in work.

2. Failure reminds us that we are human.

That is right all of those taking the time to read this. Failure reminds us that we are human. It reminds us of pain. Failure reminds us to take a moment and breathe. We forget that sometimes. We forget that we need to take a moment to ourselves. Failure forces us to step back, and reassess our surroundings. It pushes us down, and while we are working are way back up, we have a chance to see the flowers growing, and see the animals, and the rest of nature. We relax. That is after we are finished sobbing, screaming, or just sitting and staring through the television, or whatever other coping mechanism you have.

3. If you aren't failing, you aren't trying.

Failing means you've tried something new and that you are growing. Growth is what we want. Humans need to be stimulated. We need to be challenged. Part of being challenged means we are going to fail. It is all part of the process. Enjoy the process. Embrace the process. Learn something new, and fail a few times in the process.

Go forth, stumble, fall, fail. Learn something new. Embrace the fall, and enjoy the climb back up to your feet. And don't ever forget that you are not alone. You are never alone. I am here for you. Reach out and contact me if you ever need someone to talk to. I'm here always. I will get back to you as soon as I can, and help you through your failures. I will help through any struggle you are going through. Just because you fail, doesn't mean your life is over. Please, don't ever forget that. I love you all, failures and all.
